The City of Lakeland is very progressive in futuristic planning The most recent endeavor is a community recreation area called Common Grounds which is a playground for all children regardless of physical restrictions. The playground opened early is 2009 and is one of the most enjoyed parks.
The annual Sun-n-Fun is the second largest air show in the world and is held in the Spring. The downtown area is a popular shopping and gathering place. Quaint shops, restaurants, antique district, Munn Park with evening Pop Concerts provide opportunities and cultural experiences for all ages.
