Why is Tallahassee so Great?

Tallahassee is Florida's state capital and the home to Florida State University (FSU), and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Tallahassee is a mid-sized city. The county (Leon) has roughly 255,000 residents. So the population is not to the point where traffic is always snarled and everything is overcrowded, BUT it is large enough to attract big time entertainers, singers, and sporting events. Tallahassee is Florida, but it has Southern Charm. Unlike larger cities, Tallahassee residents will often greet you with a warm “Hello” and will likely strike up a friendly conversation during any occasion.

Tallahassee's majestic live oaks, rolling hills, pristine lakes, canopy roads, and bountiful flowering plants make it a unique, pleasant, and beautiful place to live. Springtime in Tallahassee is especially wonderful with its blooming dogwood trees, camellia bushes, roses, and azaleas.

There are activities for everyone in the Tallahassee area. The city is only minutes away from pristine lakes, forests, and the Gulf of Mexico where you'll find some of the world's finest beaches and salt water fishing. Tallahassee's Parks and Recreation Department (TPRD) was recently named the BEST in the entire country. TPRD has outstanding facilities and programs for youth and adults including soccer, baseball, softball, flag football, tackle football, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, golf, jogging trails, bicycle trails, and summer camps.

If you love big time sports venues, you'll love Tallahassee. FSU and FAMU's athletic teams continually rank among the best in the nation. Furthermore, Tallahassee is home to one of the equestrian community's premier events, the Red Hills Horse Trials.

Tallahassee's economy is anchored by the state government and the major universities (FSU, FAMU). It is primarily a service oriented economy with little heavy industry. Because of this, the economy is stable and positioned well for constant, predictable growth.

As you can see, Tallahassee has a lot to offer. We truly hope you will visit one day and decide to make it your home!
