Incorporated as recently as 1963, Ponce Inlet was named for its first explorer, Ponce de Leon who first came across its shores in 1513. A soaring red lighthouse tower that can be seen from 19 miles at sea is the most famous landmark in the area. When it was put into service back in 1887, it was the only navigational aid between St. Augustine and Cape Canaveral. Ponce Inlet sits on a peninsula tip along the Halifax River that is home to marinas, restaurants, charter fishing boats, and even a casino boat to add a little excitement to this beautiful piece of land. A water taxi that runs 7 days a week links New Smyrna to Ponce Inlet for those wanting to visit the Marine Discovery Center, Riverside Park and various dining establishments. The Votran Bus Service is the public transit system of choice that even offers a beach side trolley service from mid-January to Labor Day. Located just 10 miles south of Daytona Beach in Volusia County, housing choices in Ponce Inlet range from condos and rentals to single family homes.
