With more than 1,400 lakes, Lake County is aptly named. Yachts, airboats, canoes and watercraft of all kinds are naturals here, and regattas regularly draw enthusiastic crowds. Lakes interconnected by rivers and canals form the Harris and Clermont Chain of lakes, where bass, perch and catfish are plentiful. Located in the “Heart of the Highlands,” the county's hilly terrain is unusual for Florida. Residents have the distinct advantage of access to Orlando and both Florida coasts.

Many of Lake County's towns are based on agriculture, but high-tech, service and manufacturing companies are growing in others. While most progress has been to the north, Clermont is enjoying new growth due to its proximity to area attractions and an expanding highway system.
