Living in West Palm Beach, FLWest Palm Beach is located in southern Florida, just 70 miles north of Miami along the state’s beautiful east coast. The city had humble beginnings as a settlement founded by Henry M. Flagler, rich developer and owner of the Florida East Coast Railway, who purchased the land in order to house his employees and servants that worked at the two luxury hotels on the neighboring island of Palm Beach. It was in this era that West Palm Beach began to take shape; many of its residential areas and major streets were established, as well as schools, theaters, and commercial centers. Neighborhoods such as El Cid and Flamingo Park, which still survive today, were developed during this time and are now preserved and cherished as historic districts of West Palm Beach.
Although the residents of West Palm Beach saw much devastation and hardship from the Hurricane of 1928, the Great Depression, and WWII, they overcame these obstacles to create the bustling urban metropolis that West Palm Beach is currently known to be. Today the city boasts a population of over 100,000 people, and offers gorgeous natural beauty with warm sunny days and stunning waterfront views, as well as world-class arts and entertainment, shopping, dining, and a fun-loving community that enjoys festivals and celebrations all year-round.
