About Jackson County, GA

A charming county, yet progressive and dynamic, awaits you in Jackson County without the modern day trappings of traffic jams, parking lots and high-rise buildings. Just 40 minutes north of Atlanta along I-85 you can come home to a place with abundant home style cooking and outlet shopping at its best!

Within this county there are several incorporated communities as well as secluded county roads and unincorporated areas. Jefferson is the county seat. Other towns of Arcade, Braselton, Hoschton, Maysville, Pendergrass and Talmo offer a quiet, relaxed way of life to a much smaller population.

Farms still occupy much of the land area. In the state, the county ranked second in market value of agricultural products sold, 99% of which was derived from livestock, poultry and their products. Jackson County lies 50 miles northeast of Atlanta with I-85 passing through the center. The county’s five interchanges are the prime targets for substantial economic development. The presence of nationally and internationally known companies running operations is the best testimony to Jacksonville County’s healthy economic environment.

Jefferson is the county seat for Jackson County resting just off of I-85 fifty miles north of Atlanta. With a small town atmosphere, Jefferson is home to natives as well as newcomers looking for a relaxed lifestyle with access to all that a big city has to offer. One will find new home communities, farms, historic homes even a small lake home community developed for the avid skiers.

Historic Commerce is the 19th century town which inspired the setting for the widely-acclaimed novel by Olive Ann Burns, “Cold Sassy Tree”. Commerce is one of Georgia’s Main Street Cities and is a must see for those who seek the authentic flare of the American South. Main Street Cities are communities who have restored their downtown to their original and historical appearances. Commerce is committed to an ongoing downtown revitalization-preservation program and Jackson Countians take great pride in it.

As a relatively young community, Braselton offers a large variety of housing in new homes of many sizes and styles, gentleman farms as well as age restrictive communities. It is conveniently located to the growing Mall of Georgia as well as strategically placed smaller specialized centers to attract local consumers.

In Braselton, you’ll find Georgia’s premier winery at Chateau Elan. Inside the magnificent 26th century style French Chateau, tours and wine-tastings are available. Along with restaurants and bistro style cafes, there is an art gallery, two 18-hold golf courses, picnic areas, nature trails adjacent to the lush vineyards. With its executive conference center and health spa, Chateau Elan is the perfect setting for business conferences and retreats as well as romantic getaways. If speed is more your style, there are two types of racing to be found. Road Atlanta is the South’s premier motor sports venue. Across from Road Atlanta is Lanier Raceway which holds sanctioned NASCAR-Winston Racing Series races.
