Burnside Island is located on the beautiful Intercoastal Waterway in Southwest Savannah. Less than 15 minutes from historic downtown Savannah, GA, this water oriented community is convenient to all the city has to offer.
As you drive out to Burnside you will travel down shady Shipyard Road, home of the colonial era shipbuilding industry in the historic seaport town. The shade provided by the giant Pine and Oak trees were used to build those ocean traveling ships of past. The latter part of your drive is a Palm lined causeway leading to the island. From here you will have a clear view of the Moon River which is the same Moon River in the song written by former Burnside Island resident Johnny Mercer and made famous by Andy Williams.
Bordered by two rivers and with its four creeks, Burnside has several miles of waterfront property. These waters are considered to be some of the best areas for fishing, crabbing and shrimping. Boaters come from miles around to harvest its bounty.
The homes on the Island vary from large multi-acre estates to the more affordable. Many of the homes were built by Savannah residents long ago as summer homes to escape the city heat. The prevailing summer breezes provide a refreshing break during the hot summers and help keep the winter temperatures moderate. The Island also offers several neighborhood boat ramps that allow for easy access to the rivers for many residents who enjoy boating and other water sports. Burnside is beautiful and secluded yet convenient, with homes priced in every range.
