Forsyth County is located at the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains, approximately 25 miles north of downtown Atlanta. Lake Sidney Lanier is the largest tourist attraction in Forsyth County, which was home of the 1996 Olympic Canoeing and Kayak event. The Lake boasts hosting over 8 million visitors annually to the 57 parks and 10 marinas.
Forsyth County had been one of the fastest growing counties in the nation as a results of geographical location and proximity to Atlanta, plus world class schools system which ranks in the top five systems in Georgia for SAT and CRCT scores respectively. The county is dedicated to the preservation of the history and integrity of the community, and this is evident with the formation of the Sawnee Mountain Foundation, responsible for the trust created for Sawnee Mountain Preserve, with provides 963 acres of scenic and passive space.
The Wall Street Journal (January 2009) reported that Forsyth County was the 10th wealthiest county in the nation, and we are home to the new Avenues Forsyth, a premier high end shopping experience with over 527,000 square feet situated on 70+ acres. Taxes are a benefit to the residents of Forsyth County, with a current millage rate of 22.528, making the area one of the lowest tax basis for any county in Metro Atlanta.
