Dunwoody, Georgia is a city in the north-central part of the state, located in DeKalb County. On the whole, Dunwoody is more affluent and educated than the rest of the state, with a strong cultural base.
The city is home to Dunwoody Park, a scenic nature preserve, and the Fernbank Museum of Natural history (home to the largest dinosaur ever discovered), as well as the Perimeter Mall, a major shopping center. Dunwoody also houses the Dunwoody Country Club, adding to the incredible amenities of the area.
Like most of Georgia, Dunwoody features a temperate climate, with mild winters and warm summers. There are four distinct seasons, but winters are considerably less brutal than in the Northern states. Dunwoody has a population of just over 30,000 people. Of the people who live in Dunwoody, most have a daily commute to work, typically to the business hub of Atlanta.
Dunwoody manages to combine several developed areas with areas of lush, scenic beauty. As with the state in general, Dunwoody has green, rolling hills and varied and beautiful natural foliage. Because of its proximity to Atlanta, many people with families choose to live here due to the relative small-town atmosphere.
While parts of Dunwoody in particular, and DeKalb County in general, are certainly industrialized, the city lacks the normal trademarks of urban blight. Because of this, as well as Dunwoody's excellent public school system, it is considered an excellent place to raise a family, one of the South's true gems.
