History Of Peachtree City

When you look at Peachtree City today, you see a community that exists in harmony with itself. The was planned synergistically, so that businesses and residences could mesh into a seamless whole. This, of course, took great forethought and planning.

The history of Peachtree City begins approximately 2,000 years ago, when the area was first settled by Native Americans. In the early 19th century, Scottish/Creek gentleman named William McIntosh, Jr., chief of Georgia's Lower Creek Indian tribes, ceded much of what became Fayette County to the federal government. Much later, in 1959, a group of real estate developers began what was one of the first planned cities in the United States.

Their goal was to create a city that was vibrant and livable, not a sterile cookie-cutter community. By all accounts, they have succeeded admirably. When the plan for Peachtree City was first developed, the city was designed so that the population would be capped at about 80,000. Since then, that number has been revised downward so that the maximum population can only reach 40,000 residents. This ensures that Peachtree City will maintain its uniquely charming character while sidestepping the urban sprawl that blights so many other communities, both big and small.

Today, Peachtree City has become a model for the entire nation. With a top-ranked school system, multiple shopping and dining choices, and an abundance of entertainment choices, Peachtree City is an ideal place to raise a family in the beauty of America's South.
