Warner Robins, GA, the 9th largest city in Georgia is also known as the “International City” due to its proximity to Robins Air Force Base and the cultural diversity of the people. The Air Force originally was attracted to the area during WWII and at the urging of the first commander, Colonel Thomas, changed the name from Wellston to Warner Robins in honor of Brigadier General Augustine Warner Robins. As a direct result of the Korean conflict, Robins Air Force Base was established and is now Georgia’s largest single industry. Robins Air Force Base employs more than 27,000 civilian service workers, military members, contractors and non-appropriated fund employees. Peripheral services that serve these personnel are roughly calculated at an additional 36,000 + jobs. There are approximately 2,000 retail businesses within the city limits of Warner Robins.
Education is a top priority in Warner Robins and Houston County. The Houston County School system has 25,000+ students with a 22 to 1 pupil-teacher ratio. Warner Robins High School and Houston County High School have been named as National Schools of Excellence. There are 21 elementary, 7 middle, 4 high schools and 2 specialty schools in the Houston County School system. A new high school will be opening fall 2010.
Warner Robins is the proud home of the 2007 Little League World Champions, the 2009 Little League Softball World Champions and in 2009 was named by Business Week as the “Best Place to Raise Kids” in Georgia.
Warner Robins is expanding in all directions and its growth and change are constant. Over 21,000 new citizens are projected by the year 2010. The area has more than 140 civic & service clubs and over 100 churches. The climate is mild with an average winter temperature of 46 degrees and a gentle summer day average of 82.4 degrees with our warmest days being in late August. Warner Robins is in close proximity to Atlanta, the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic coast. The economy is ever growing, the interest rates are some of the lowest in the state, parks are plentiful, crime is low and the people are friendly. It’s a great place to call home.
