With a population of a little over 10,000, Garden City is Chatham County’s second-largest municipality. In January of 2009, the city took a great step by breaking ground to create a new 40 acre mixed-use Town Center Project that will be home to a new city hall, a new regional police academy, and a new visitors center in the relocated Dotson House, Garden City’s oldest home dating back to the late eighteenth century and formerly the overseer’s home at historic Brompton Plantation. At build-out, the site will accommodate over 800,000 square feet of commercial, residential, and retail development. It will serve as the heart and soul of downtown Garden City and will provide a new modern gateway to historic Savannah.
