Welcome to Geronimo, OK

The town of Geronimo is located in Comanche County, Oklahoma, in the southwest part of the state, 97 miles from Oklahoma City. A quiet residential community, Geronimo has a population of just over 900 people. Its peaceful rural atmosphere serves as a retreat from Oklahoma’s more urban locales, and yet when they want to enjoy the fast-paced city, Geronimo residents are within a two to four hour drive from Oklahoma City, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and Amarillo, TX, making these locations perfect for day trips and weekend getaways. For everyday shopping, dining, and entertainment, Geronimo residents are just 11 miles south of Lawton (pop. 93,000), and have access to an abundance of city amenities, attractions, and recreation. Lawton has a very active arts community that sponsors yearly festivals and events, and the McMahon Memorial Auditorium and the Lawton Community Theatre host a variety of performances, from children’s dance recitals to major operas. Lawton is home to three museums—the Fort Sill Museum and National Historic Landmark (this is where Geronimo was held prisoner until his death in 1909), the Museum of the Great Plains, and the Percussive Arts Society Museum. For outdoor recreation, Lawton boasts 80 parks, recreation centers/facilities, and sports programs for adults and youth. Also, for boating, swimming and fishing recreation, Geronimo and Lawton residents frequently visit the two beautiful regional lakes located just north of Lawton—Lake Ellsworth and Lake Lawtonka.
