Attractions in Huntsville, AL

In addition to its economic diversity, the city of Huntsville also offers a variety of recreation and attractions that appeal to people of all ages. Residents of Huntsville can celebrate the city’s history by visiting several local museums, such as the 1819 Weeden House Museum and the 1860 Huntsville Depot Museum, and by walking the oldest streets in town during a Huntsville historic district walking tour. One of the most popular historic attractions in the city is the district of Twickenham, which features the largest collection of antebellum homes in all of Alabama. Another major Huntsville attraction is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home to the internationally recognized U.S. Space Camp. Here, visitors can learn about Huntsville’s role in the history of space exploration, become familiar with today’s space technology, and can participate in simulated astronaut training activities.

Huntsville has a vibrant arts community that supports the Huntsville Museum of Art, the Von Braun Center, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, as well as several independent theater groups, such as Fantasy Playhouse children’s theater and Flying Monkey Arts. For outdoor recreation, the city is home to many parks and green spaces, such as the 2,000 acre Monte Sano State Park which features trails for hiking and biking. Also, the Huntsville Botanical Gardens offers scenic walking paths, manicured gardens, and educational programs. Golf lovers of all skill levels can easily find a challenge at any one of the 13 courses that are located in or nearby the city. One of the area’s most popular golf spot is Hampton Cove, which features two championship courses and one par three and is the first course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
