Living In Cedar Rapids, IA

In 2008 before the flood the City and County proclaimed it the “The Year of the River”. Who would have known how loud that slogan really rang? The water is back in its banks but the memory will forever live on in those affected by its enormity. Neighbor helping neighbor, strangers helping strangers, together this community is rebuilding and coming alive stronger and more vibrant than ever. What really is a city? Quite simply, the people.

Cedar Rapids, named for the rapids of the Cedar River was incorporated in 1849. Today, approximately 125,000 residents call it home. (Marion and Hiawatha push the metro area population to nearly 175,000). Occupied originally by Sac and Fox Native Americans this territory saw settlers from the east and an immigration of Czechoslovakians which came to work in the packing plants. Now a Midwestern melting pot. A multitude of races and ethnicity give the city a broad based cultural diversity. The youthful city has grown from packing plants and lumber mills to large corporations and a growing part of Iowa’s Technology Corridor. Here there are opportunities for a variety of career choices.

Cedar Rapids has many cultural and sporting events for the entire family. Enjoy all the community offers right in your own backyard. Cheer on the Kernels, a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels or enjoy the fine arts at Theatre Cedar Rapids or Cedar Rapids Symphony. Nearby is Iowa City which is home to the University of Iowa and numerous Big 10 athletic and cultural attractions. A half days journey finds you in one of the larger metropolitan cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis or Kansas City to take in some of the bigger venues.

Cedar Rapids, come visit for a lifetime!
