About Berwyn, Illinois

Berwyn is a suburb of Chicago, located eight miles west of the heart of downtown. The housing options in Berwyn, Illinois are generally limited to single-family homes. Berwyn features an incredible amount of Chicago-style bungalows – one of the most noteworthy collections in the country! This style of home is generally a one-story structure that also features a basement and attic with two or three bedrooms. These homes are also distinguished by their oak floors and stained class windows and some even include terra cotta exteriors. In addition to the bungalows, Berwyn has an outstanding array of historic homes, 320 of which are known to be 100 years or older. In fact, the community boasts two historic districts: Lavaragne Settlements and 12th Street. Berwyn's notable architecture has garnered the community two “Governor's Home Town Awards” and a finalist position for the “City Livability Award”, sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

While the residences are undeniably beautiful, Berwyn has much more to offer its habitants, including the Cermak Plaza Shopping center, or simply “The Plaza”. More than twenty retailers claim home to The Plaza, which was built in the 50's one of the pioneer shopping centers in the entire Chicago area. Be sure to also discover the multiple outdoor sculptures and artworks, which draw many visitors year in and year out. In fact, Berwyn lays claim to “The Spindle”, a large example of outdoor artwork that made its major motion picture debut in “Wayne's World”.
