Living in Lake Forest, ILThe city of Lake Forest is home to the beautiful 107-acre campus of Lake Forest College—“Chicago’s National Liberal Arts College”—which maintains a big presence within the community not only as a center for education, but as a cultural hub for performing arts, visual arts, and athletics. Supplementing the college’s calendar of events, the city of Lake Forest is also home to the Gorton Community Center, located in a renovated early 20th century schoolhouse. The Gorton Center hosts a wide range of performances by groups such as CenterStage and the Lake Forest Symphony, the only professional orchestra in Lake County. Lake Forest boasts an active arts community—the Deer Path Art League—which maintains the Deer Path Gallery and plans special events such as the annual Art Fair on the Square. The city’s Historic Market Square is where many Lake Forest events are held; the district was established in 1916 and carries the sophisticated charm of a small English village with over 25 unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants. For outdoor recreation, Lake Forest residents can enjoy all the Midwest seasons at 12 city parks, the McCormick Nature Preserve, the Wildlife Discovery Center, and the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan. The city offers many sporting facilities, community leagues, and the popular 18-hole, par 70/72 Deerpath Golf Course.
