About Mt. Prospect, Illinois

Mount Prospect is a Chicago suburb that has worked its way into being a large business center. The city started out as an area that struggled to make it to the required 300 people necessary to incorporate a town but grew rapidly after the addition of a train station in 1929. From there the city's population grew rapidly with the new businesses that came to town. It began as mostly a farming town but expanded to include both an industrial district as well as a large retail presence. They are home to Randhurst, one of the first air-conditioned indoor malls in the Midwest. Today the city has kept to its path of rapid expansion and is now home to over 56,000 residents.

The residents enjoy both the big business around the city as well as the easy commute into Chicago. Companies such as Mitsubishi Electronics, Centel, and Eastman Kodak are located in the area and provide jobs to many of the Mount Prospect residents. Although business is big in Mount Prospect, the city leaders find it important to maintain a residential feel to the area. In recent years they have launched a campaign to make the city center look and feel more charming with the addition of much green area. The business may sustain the city but they see the backbone of the city being their longtime slogan “Where Friendliness is a Way of Life.”
