Pekin, IL is a city in Tazewell County, Illinois with a population of about 35,000 people. Known as the Marigold Capital of the world, Pekin holds a yearly marigold festival the first weekend after Labor Day, celebrating and encouraging community pride with a parade, the crowning of Miss Marigold, live music and arts and crafts. All financial proceeds from this festival are donated to charity organizations in the Pekin area. Aside from Pekin’s cultural offerings, the city also has a solid economic base and is home to many industrial and manufacturing jobs.
