Revitalized Worth, IL

Sporting a water tower that has long read, "The Friendly Village," Worth has renovated and revitalized its image to achieve a more progressive look. The village hall was rebuilt and expanded to make way for new offices and services. Other improvements include a $1.5 million Victorian-styled Metra station with expanded parking, and a $5 million golf club on the north edge of Cal-Sage Channel. In keeping with these updates, Worth is moving away from its former image as a retirement haven and welcoming more families and young professionals. Many newcomers are drawn by affordable and attractive housing options, from vintage Chicago-style homes that date back to World War II and traditional frame Victorians to modern construction. Other home styles in Worth date back to the 1950s and late '60s, including split-levels, Cape Cods, bungalows, and ranches. Characterized as a solidly residential community with limited commercial development, Worth is looking toward industrial growth as part of the future development. Located along Interstate 294 just 20 miles from the Loop, the village combines the land and economic incentives to attracting new business. Commuters ride Metra trains from a station in the community. Midway Airport is 15 minutes away.
