Welcome to Jonesboro, AR

Over the years, Jonesboro, Arkansas slowly rose in prominence to become the current largest city in northeastern Arkansas with a population of over 64,000 residents. The city’s strong farming communities that developed in the early 20th century paved the way for Jonesboro’s status as an agricultural hub of the region, producing soybeans, rice, cotton, fish and livestock. Besides agriculture, Jonesboro’s economy also thrives on manufacturing and trade, as well as the service-based industries of medicine and education. The city’s pride and joy is the Arkansas State University, which occupies 800 acres within the city and is the 2nd largest institution of higher learning in the state.

In addition to Jonesboro’s healthy economical climate, the city offers a variety of attractions that keep residents entertained year-round, including shopping and dining, arts, entertainment, and sports. Arkansas State University’s campus houses several cultural centers for the whole community to enjoy, such as the Fowler Performing Arts Center which boasts a 975-seat concert hall and a 344-seat proscenium drama theater. Also on campus are two art galleries—the Bradbury Gallery and the Fine Arts Center Art Gallery—as well as the Arkansas State University History Museum, which has many regional, paleontology, and Native American exhibits.

Away from the university campus, Jonesboro’s vibrant downtown area is full of small gift shops, boutiques, restaurants and galleries that make for a perfect afternoon or evening. Downtown Jonesboro is home to the Forum, a performing arts center that hosts touring companies and special productions, houses art exhibitions, and provides educational classes in performing and literary arts. Another great downtown feature is the Eden Medical Spa and Boutique located on Union and Washington; Eden offers full spa services in a luxurious, relaxing environment that welcomes both men and women.

Jonesboro’s regional beauty lends itself to plenty of outdoor recreation in the several state parks and a national forest that is nearby. The Forrest Wood Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center and the Crowley’s Ridge National Scenic Parkway allows residents and visitors to fully enjoy the beautiful landscape of the region and explore the history of the Ridge. Also, Jonesboro Parks and Recreation maintains many parks and public sports facilities throughout the city, and offers community sports programs for people of all ages. The Jonesboro community supports good health in a number of city-wide events such as the Mr. Trophy Triathlon and the 5K Freedom Run.
