Leavenworth, Kansas became the first city of the newly established Kansas Territory in 1854 and is still leading the way into the future. Leavenworth has a strong foundation for both the businesses and residents. The community is home to hundreds of small, privately owned businesses as well as Hallmark Cards, University of Saint Mary, the Dwight D. Fort Leavenworth has a dramatic impact on the local economy. The Fort and the ancillary operations provide a $3.6 billion economic impact and is northeast Kansas’ largest employer. Fort Leavenworth is home to the Command General Staff College (CGSC) and is known as the “intellectual center of the Army”. Thousands of active duty and retired military officers either attend or teach at the CGSC and hundreds of these individuals have chosen to retire and live in the Leavenworth area.

Leavenworth is within 20-30 minutes of a great new shopping area that includes retail shops, many restaurants and the largest furniture store in the world, Nebraska Furniture Mart. There are many new housing communities within the Leavenworth/Lansing area. Vintage homes are abundant in Leavenworth as well as high-end to moderate and lower priced properties. Leavenworth is within 30 minutes of Kansas City International Airport with flights to any place in the world.
