Historic Topeka, KS

Topeka, Kansas is the capital of the State of Kansas and is located at the intersection of I-70 and US Highway 75. The history of Topeka is interesting and influenced by railroads, wagon trains and the Civil War. Burlington Northern and Santa Fe have been one of Topeka’s major industries for more than a hundred years. It is now known as BNSF Railway Company. In the 1980s a new Topeka convention center and airport were built. In addition, Topeka boasts a Performing Arts Center and hosts the International Jazz Festival. There is also a Topeka Symphony Orchestra, Helen Hocker Performing Arts Center, and Terrance McKerr’s Theater Pub. Topeka is known as a motorsports mecca since the opening of Heartland Park Topeka and the Relocation Sports Car Club of America.

Today, Topeka’s economy is comprised of over 50% of Government and service workers. The Fortune 500 companies located in Topeka include BNSF, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Hallmark Cards and Frito-Lay. Also, Washburn University, one of the finest educational institutions in the US, is located here.
