Burlington, Kentucky is the county seat for Boone County. Once a farming community, Burlington was carved out of Campbell County in 1798. It was known as Craig’s Camp in honor of John Craig who donated 74 acres to the town. The name was changed to Burlington in 1815. While there are still rolling farmlands, building is booming on Route 18 to the 1-75 interchange. Burlington, Kentucky has the charm of the old—a kind of a “gentleman farmer” atmosphere, and excitement of the new. It is one of two unincorporated areas in Northern Kentucky. Residential development is growing here, and housing consists of older and newer homes in a range of prices. Recreation for residents consists of soccer fields, baseball/ softball fields, basketball courts, a walking trail and three shelters. Burlington is the home of the Boone County Fairgrounds, and Dinsmore Historic Home is an operating museum farm with roots going back to 1841. It is governed by Boone County Fiscal Court. Tousey House, a fine-dining spot closed for a little while, is reopening; as is Oakbrook Café, a neighborhood hangout.
