The bedroom community of Fort Mitchell, KY is just minutes away from downtown Cincinnati. It was named after Ormsby MacKnight Mitchel (one “l”), a Union army general, who founded the Cincinnati Observatory on Mt. Adams in 1845. Housing features quaint Victorian houses, luxurious condos, and elegant homes with manicured lawns. Shopping spots line Dixie Highway, which runs through the community, and its location makes for quick access to the Florence Mall and Crestview Hills Town Center. The community is home to Fort Mitchell Country Club and Drawbridge Inn, a 17-acre complex with two restaurants, indoor/outdoor pools, and 18 meeting rooms. Also located here is Vent Haven Museum, which hosts an annual ventriloquists convention in July attended by more than 400 ventriloquists from as far away as Africa, Japan and Switzerland. Its residents are proud of the good school systems. Beechwood High School and Dixie Heights High School are located here; as are parochial schools Blessed Sacrament, K–8, and Guardian Angel School. Northwood University, which is geared to working adults, is also here. Dining places include Greyhound Tavern, Indigo, Montgomery Inn and Oriental Wok. It was incorporated in 1910.
