Louisville Kentucky Homes For Sale

Louisville is a city where the old and the new happily coexist. The city retains the Southern charm of a place where ladies still wear bodacious hats on Derby Day, yet it also has an edge on the newest trends in culture and business. It is a city of neighborhoods, more than 60 of them, each with its own special character.

Jeffersontown, for example, is one of the fastest-growing areas in Kentucky, especially since the arrival of the Bluegrass Industrial Park. The atmosphere in the new subdivisions is upscale, but homes are moderately priced. Boutiques, antiques and more than 100 restaurants keep things lively.

Highlands, on the other hand, is known for its historic homes, mostly dating from 1870 to 1940. It's a neighborhood of lush parks and venerable trees, yet Bardstown Road is an energetic commercial district. There are affordable starter homes available in addition to the large older homes. Butchertown is even older. It was developed in the 1830s as a meat-packing district, and the city has carefully preserved the area's brick streets and historic homes, some of which date to the Federalist era.

A more rural atmosphere can still be found in parts of Okolona and Fern Creek. Yet Okolona is convenient to three of Greater Louisville's largest employers (UPS, General Electric and Ford) and Fern Creek has a population of more than 22,000. Okolona has both starter homes and larger, more upscale homes, while Fern Creek offers moderately priced subdivisions.
