Welcome to Richmond, KYFounded in 1798 and rich in history and tradition, Richmond is now one of Kentucky’s fastest growing cities. Located in Madison County and just off I-75, Richmond is home to a growing industrial and retail base. Recent months have seen new industries and the new Richmond Centre, a 120 acre complex that is home to several large retailers.
Along with a bustling business scene, Madison County offers an excellent education system, with nearly 20 schools and the latest technology in every classroom. Richmond is home to Eastern Kentucky University, a full-fledged comprehensive university serving more than 15,000 students each year. Eastern is also Richmond’s largest employer and provides the city with all the benefits that go along with being a “college town.”
Still, Richmond offers a calm, relaxing atmosphere and holds the title of a certified retirement community. There are many beautiful parks to enjoy and nearly half a dozen professional golf courses. As a city that is deep-seated in tradition and culture, there are many festivals and tourist attractions that residents of Richmond enjoy, including Acres of Land Winery, the Battle of Richmond re-enactment, White Hall State Historic Site, the Bennet House, Pops at the Park, the Pottery Festival and a new aquatic center.
