Wilder, KY – A Growing Business Community

The community of Wilder, KY was once known as Leitch’s Station, after Scotchman David Leitch, who owned 35,000 acres of land at that time. (Leitch died at age 41 and his widow, Keturah Moss, later married James Taylor, who founded city of Newport.) Wilder was incorporated in 1935, when most of its residents made their living at the Andrew Steel Company (now Newport Steel). It was named after famous ophthalmologist William Hamlin Wilder. A growing business community, it’s only a few minutes away from downtown Cincinnati and borders Northern Kentucky University, one of the fastest-growing universities in the state. Wilder has a sports complex, a movie theater and is surrounded by shopping malls. Its Licking River frontage is home to the Northern Kentucky Port of Authority. Housing styles vary along the Licking River, and recent development has centered around condominiums and upscale single family houses. It has one of the lowest property tax rates in Northern Kentucky.
