Our area is a regional medical hub..offering everything from daily care to sophisticated neurological and transplant surgery…LSU-Health Science Center, Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, Overton Brooks VA Center, Sutton Children’s Medical Center (working with St. Jude’s), & the Bio-Medical Center. Our Shriner’s Hospital is the first of 22 hospitals to be opened in the Shriner’s system.

We offer several centers of higher education…LSU-Shreveport, Centenary College, Bossier Parish Community College, Vo-Tech, LSU-Med School, Southern University and a host of trade schools.

Sportsman’s Paradise.. Hunting & fishing abound! Red River, plus Cross Lake, Lake Bistineau, Cypress Lake, Caddo Lake..perfect for outdoor fun or everyday living! The Bassmaster Classic was in town, & The Women’s Bassmaster Tour is later this year. The downtown river front also offers shopping & recreational activities, including the Louisiana Boardwalk, a variety of restaurants & host of retailers. Several public boat-launches are on both sides of Red River as well as bike/hiking trails. Try your luck at one of 5-casinos or enjoy Louisiana Downs horse racing.

Sci-Port Science Center with 290 interactive exhibits in 92,000 sqft, was named one of the 10 best science centers in the country by Parents Magazine in 2008. Enjoy Alligator Park & Exotic Zoo. The American Rose Center is America’s largest park dedicated to roses with 20,000 roses on 118-acres. Thousands of visitors enjoy Christmas at Roseland. Chimp Haven, a nationally recognized sanctuary, is open to public.
