Lee’s Summit, MO - a Vibrant Community

Throughout the years Lee’s Summit has grown and adapted to being an important residential and cultural center in the Kansas City Metro Area. The city currently boasts a population of over 86,000 people, and it has often been recognized as one of the nation’s top communities; in fact, CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Lee’s Summit as 44th among their list of “100 Best Cities to Live in the United States” in 2006. The city prides itself on its family oriented atmosphere with two award-winning school districts, public libraries and year-round youth activity programs, as well as several churches representing a variety of denominations. Lee’s Summit has a vibrant downtown district that just went through a fabulous streetscape renovation, and features over 100 unique, locally owned boutiques and shops, salons and day spas, as well as cafes and restaurants with a wide range of cuisine. Residents gather downtown to enjoy the city’s many festivals and events, including farmer’s markets, a Friday night summer concert series, the Downtown Days Festival, as well as art and food festivals such as Oktoberfest and Old Tyme Days. Lee’s Summit also provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation with over 25 parks and athletic facilities, plus a greenway and trail system that is now partially constructed, but when completed will connect all of Lee’s Summit and surround communities with 100 miles of trails for walking, jogging, and bicycling. In the Jackson County area are three lakes—the Blue Springs Lake, Lake Jacomo, and Longview Lake—as well as the James A. Reed Wildlife Reserve. Approximately 20 miles east of Lee’s Summit is Powell Gardens, a 915-acre botanical garden that features an island, perennial gardens, a wildflower meadow, a mystic rock and waterfall garden, as well as a chapel, education center and conservatory.
