Welcome to Loveland, OH

What’s not to love about Loveland? Its welcome sign designates it the “Sweetheart of Ohio”. Its logo is a red heart inscribed with sun, clouds and river. The US Postal Service unveiled its “Love Stamp” here in 1994. Since 1972, it has hosted its annual Valentine Program, with competition to choose a unique theme, the selection of the Valentine Lady who ‘reigns’ for the coming year, a Valentine Card Design Contest, a community breakfast, and hand-stamping of thousands of envelopes with a romantic stamp and postmark!

Located approximately 20 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati, Loveland’s city limits straddle three counties – Hamilton, Clermont and Warren. First settled in Clermont County in 1795 by Colonel Thomas Paxton of Pennsylvania and his family of 11 children, it derived its name from store-owner and Postmaster James Loveland, hence the standing instruction to “Leave the mailbag off at Loveland’s”. It was incorporated as a Village in 1876, then as a City in 1961. Loveland today boasts strong government, business, education and arts. Its historic district, passive & active recreational acreage, city parks and dedicated green space make it especially picturesque. Popular activities are biking or hiking on the Loveland Bike Trail, canoeing along the Little Miami River and visiting Chateau Laroche, or as it is more commonly known, the Loveland Castle. Sitting imposingly along the bank of the Little Miami, this medieval structure was built nearly single-handedly beginning in 1929 by a highly intelligent eccentric named Harry Andrews as a promise to his Sunday School class of young boys, whom he dubbed his “Knights of the Golden Trail”. It was willed to the Knights when he died in his 90s. They maintain it as a tourist attraction and rental for weddings and parties.

The gently rolling topography and rural ambience combined with its proximity to expressways makes Loveland a desirable and growing ‘bedroom community’ with a wide range of neighborhoods and housing, from the quaint historical cottage to the grand country estate, and everything in between. Loveland is truly a great place to love as well as a great place for love!
