Lovingston, VA, located in beautiful Nelson County draws a host of new residents and visitors alike, all year; every year! Home to Wintergreen Resort, 5 wineries, 2 breweries and set at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Nelson is truly a sought-after region to live and play.

Wintergreen Resort, a self-proclaimed “four seasons resort” offers an abundance of activities. Fine tune your sporting skills with snow-skiing, snowboarding, tubing, boating, golf, swimming, fishing, tennis and more. The resort also features a full service spa, three restaurants, generous conference space, and an abundance of shopping. It’s the perfect getaway, full of owner occupied and rental homes and condos for all.

Outside of Wintergreen, Nelson County residents enjoy tubing on the nearby James River and taking in many scenic hikes and waterfalls. Two of the more popular trails are the Humpback Rock trail and Crabtree Falls.

The seven wineries and breweries offer a host of exploring. In addition to the usual tour and tasting operations, many special events take place such as live music and barbecues. The Nelson County wineries in particular have become a most popular spot to tie the knot in Central Virginia. Offering a Blue Ridge backdrop and wonderful food and beverage options, it’s no wonder that hundreds of couples choose a Nelson winery to host their big event.

Earl Hamner, Jr., creator of Walton’s Mountain TV series is originally from Nelson County and recounted his childhood experiences in the area to conceive the show. The Walton’s Mountain Museum is still open and draws nearly 100,000 visitors annually.
