Welcome to Amherst, Massachusetts! Amherst is best known as home to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College and Hampshire College. Along with its obvious educational offerings, being a college town lends itself to a wide variety of cultural activities with the many museums, art galleries and entertainment venues. The boutiques, stores and broad selection of restaurants are also a wonderful reason to come to Amherst. Located in the heart of the Pioneer Valley, Amherst has beautiful landscapes, views and plenty of recreational opportunities. Not only are there all of these offerings, but Amherst has an imbedded respect for its history as the town was established in 1759 and just celebrated its 250th anniversary. The township also offers a vast support for open space and its agricultural heritage. Two other points of interest for Amherst are the Norwottuck Rail Trail that encompasses an 11 mile path that links Amherst with Hadley and Northampton and also an Amtrak railroad station for convenient commuting.

The town has a total area of 27.8 square miles and includes numerous housing options, sizes and prices.
