Salem, Massachusetts – Nothing to be afraid of!

The Halloween epicenter of the world, Salem, Massachusetts is rich in history and chock full of some of the most stunning historical homes on the east coast. Since 1626 this culturally diverse city has attracted people from all over the world. Its coastal location drew many settlers and business people back then, and continues to draw residents and visitors alike with its vast and interesting maritime history.

Salem may be widely known as the site of the infamous witch trials in 1692, but its draw for residents today is not only its stunning coastline, but its amazing architecture. It’s not unusual to see brand new gorgeous condominium complexes in the same neighborhood as 1920’s Victorian two families and brick Federals.

One thing Salem’s history guarantees is that you’ll never be bored living there. For the sea lovers, Salem’s tall ship Friendship is docked at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site. If the city’s witch folklore is of interest, you can visit the Witch House, Witch Dungeon Museum, or stroll the Salem Commons, the very site of the trials. And imagine living nearby the House of the Seven Gables made famous by Salem’s son, Nathaniel Hawthorne.

A short half hour train ride from Boston, Salem offers lively urban living and atmosphere without big city prices. Homes continue to be affordable and with so many eclectic shops, a bustling downtown, restaurants and historical attractions, as well as the largest state college in the commonwealth, a renowned hospital and the county’s courts, opportunities are within reach. It’s hard to deny that Salem is a “frighteningly” desirable community to live in.
