Welcome to Melrose, MA

MELROSE! You might ask yourself “Why do so many people want to live in Melrose?” There is an answer, but the reasons do differ; after all, Melrose is a small residential community located just 7 miles outside of Boston which was first settled in the 1600s, eventually was called Ponde Field because of all of the ponds and streams and was incorporated as Melrose in 1850. There are no major highways running through it that would sever the community in pieces, but the pleasing network of neighborhood streets and the combination of three train stations, local connecting bus service and an ease to get to the major highways in the abutting towns makes life here quite ideal. Victorian and Colonial homes grace the tree lined streets. The community park system and the protection from the Green Belt only add to the reasons that so many people that move here, stay here. Oh, yes, there is a beautiful 18 hole public golf course as well as an easy to reach private golf course, special ball parks and a centrally located community hospital. What more? The educational system is complete with a new central Middle School, Updated High School, Vocational School, Preschool and Kindergarten. And of course, Melrose is complete with YMCA, Clubs and Organizations, Youth Sports, Symphony, Community Halls and more and more and more.

Does it sound like a great place to live? It is! That’s, why WE live here. And the friends and neighbors that you will get to know are another reason that people come to stay. Once you have decided, we hope to meet you in one of the many excellent (and friendly) local restaurants. We think you will really like the convenience and the “fit” that Melrose offers. For more information call the Chamber of Commerce at 781-665-3033.
