Welcome to Winchester, MA

Winchester is a traditionally beautiful Victorian town, proud to support superior schools and located just minutes from Boston. This convenient location allows residents to take advantage of the cultural opportunities offered by Boston's museums, concert halls, theaters, and universities, while still enjoying the benefits of a living in a tight-knit community.

Winchester Center: This quaint town center is home to many small shops and businesses that attract residents to meet, dine and shop all year long. Located along the banks of the Aberjona River, the town center is lined with brick walkways and lanterns leading to a scenic town Common. The downtown area is the heart of Winchester and is the site of many of the town’s traditional community events. Residents mark their calendars for such events as Town Day, EnKa Fair, the Thanksgiving Day football game against neighboring Woburn and the lighting of the trees for the holiday season on the Common. In a compact town center, residents enjoy easy access to the Town Hall, Library, most of the town’s churches, and a shopping district.

Academic Excellence: Winchester has a long history of academic excellence and enjoys very strong community support of its school system. The town’s schools attract many of Winchester’s new residents and are the reason why so many Winchester residents stay in town. Winchester public schools have enjoyed consistent high achievements on the MCAS exams since their inception, and the district is consistently cited as one of the best in Massachusetts.

Naturally beautiful in Winchester: Winchester is blessed to be surrounded by one of the most magnificent reservations around in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. The Fells offers miles of walking and biking trails and spectacular scenery. Winchester is also home to many scenic lakes and ponds, including Horn Pond, Wedge Pond, Winter Pond and the beautiful Mystic Lakes. Many of the most prestigious homes in Winchester have been built close to this beautiful waterway. From the terraced lawns of Everett Avenue to the privacy and beauty of Myopia Hill with views of the Lake and Boston, the Mystic Lakes are a town treasure.

Winchester Hospital: Winchester is proud to have its own award winning hospital in the community. Winchester Hospital is a leading provider of quality healthcare with an attention to Women’s health, Obstetrics, and Oncology and a top of the line pediatric care unit, affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital. Winchester Hospital won the award for nursing excellence in 2003 and was the first community hospital in Massachusetts to achieve this prestigious recognition. Less than 3% of U.S. hospitals ever achieve this status. Winchester Hospital was named one of the Boston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in 2006 and has been on that list for four consecutive years.
