Chestertown is the seat of Kent County, one of nine counties that make up the state’s Eastern Shore region. The town’s 5,000 residents enjoy a relaxed pace of life on the banks of the Chester and Sassafras Rivers, which feed into the Chesapeake Bay. And with Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia all within a reasonable drive, Chestertown real estate owners have access to a wealth of amenities and employment opportunities. It’s no wonder, then, that the town was named one of America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Despite its modest size and rural nature, Chestertown real estate offers a number of attractions. The Wildlife Fowl Festival and the Tea Party, an annual celebration of the original tea party held on the Chester River, draw Chestertown real estate owners and visitors alike. And the Schooner Sultana project, launched in 2001, engages more than 8,000 youths a year with educational programs about the town’s maritime history. The town even boasts the nation’s tenth oldest college, Washington College, founded in 1782 and named for George Washington.
Many of Chestertown’s 18th century grand Colonial and Victorian houses have been remodeled. And there are plenty more houses to choose from with spectacular waterfront views. This makes Chestertown real estate an ideal place to relocate if you want to experience the serenity of coastal living.
