Chevy Chase stretches into the District of Columbia on the northwest corner. It is well connected to the metropolitan area with Metrorail bus and taxi service. It is known for its treed streets and charm. There are many older well kept single family homes that were originally built as summer homes in the early part of the 20th century. Since then, additional residential sections have been built with colonial, split level and ranch style homes. Close to the District line there are apartment buildings both rental and condominiums. Currently there is extensive renovation of this commercial area. The renovation includes new condos as well as high-end boutiques, restaurants and shopping to add to the already established high-end stores.
