Welcome to Columbia, MDColumbia began in the late 1960s as a planned community. Today, it is home to 10 distinct villages and more than 100,000 residents. Among these villages – each of which comprises several neighborhoods – are Wilde Lake, Long Reach, Owen Brown, and the Town Center, which is home to a 27-acre lake and the Mall in Columbia. At the heart of Columbia is a 40-acre lot of preserved land that serves as the site of Merriweather Post Pavilion, an outdoor performing arts venue.
Columbia proper is overseen by the non-profit Columbia Association, which operates the community’s 24 neighborhood centers, the Columbia Art Center, and the Columbia Volunteer Corps, among other things. It also manages a number of recreational facilities, including 29 pools and three athletics clubs.
