Montgomery County, MD Public Schools

Montgomery County, with a population of 942,000, has the 16th largest public school system in the United States. The system consists of 200 schools: 130 elementary, 38 middle, 25 high and 7 special or alternative. Approximately one of every seven County residents is a public school student. 90% of our students graduate.

MCPS serves all learners. It offers a comprehensive early childhood program and thoroughly covers the basics of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and the arts, for kindergarten through grade 12. It supports those with physical, emotional and learning disabilities, those requiring advanced studies and those for whom English is a second language. MCPS also offers career/technology training programs and serves adult learners and student who thrive in alternative programs.

Special programs offered include: Foreign Language Immersion, Gifted and Talented, Global Ecology, International Baccalaureate Programs, Magnet Programs and High School Signature Programs that foster creativity and advanced learning.

The Montgomery County Student Foundations Office, composed of three separate non-profit educational foundations, support students in the Automotive, Construction and Information Technologies industries. In conjunction with the business and professional community, these programs promote the advancement of career education and prepare students for careers with each industry.
