Bangor, ME Home of Novelist Stephen King

Small town living with the amenities of larger cities, the Greater Bangor Area offers an international airport, abundant shopping, world-class medical care at the Eastern Maine Medical Center, educational and cultural opportunities at the University of Maine in nearby Orono, and is just an hour's drive to the most popular national park on the east coast, Acadia.

Downtown, you'll find the Maine Discovery Museum, New England's second-largest children's museums; as well as the Bangor Public Library; the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Penobscot Theatre.

The Bangor City Forest is convenient and close for enjoying nature hikes, and the lovely Penobscot River waterfront is the perfect place to enjoy your picnic lunch.

Bangor has a rich history, with it having been the "lumber capital of the world" and home to sea captains. Many historic mansions from this era still grace the city's tree-lined streets.

The major employers in the Bangor area are Eastern Maine Medical Center, the Bangor Mall, the University of Maine at Orono, Hannaford Supermarkets, Jackson Laboratory and Cianbro Corporation.

Other world-class employers in our area are General Electric Power Systems, United Parcel Service, Verso Corp Paper Mill, Microdyne, St. Joseph's Hospital, Acadia Hospital, and L.L. Bean.

You'll find four-season recreation in the Greater Bangor Area, with nearby lakes, rivers and parks, the ocean, snowmobile trails, fishing and much more. We are also an easy drive to Baxter State Park, home to Maine's largest mountain, Katahdin, and a fabulous place to enjoy moose watching!
