Edwardsburg was first coined Beardsley’s Prairie by its first settler, Ezra Beardsley. However, in 1828, Thomas H. Edwards moved into the area and started the first post office. Although it eventually closed, the post office later reopened under the direction of Henry A. Chapin as the postmaster on August 23, 1841. Then on Dec. 29, 1845, the town was renamed to Edwardsburg.
