The Community of Adrian, MI

Adrian is approximately 30 miles southwest of Ann Arbor and 30 miles southeast of Jackson. With a population of 21,574 (according to the 2000 census), Adrian is a charming Midwestern college town on the south branch of the River Raisin. Extraordinary educational institutions, such as Siena Heights University, Adrian College and Jackson Community College, lend themselves to the wonderful community that was established in 1826. Interestingly enough, inventor Thomas Edison lived in Adrian and opened a shop for repairing telegraph instruments and created new machinery. The economic base of Adrian is sustained by industry and higher education, yet is diversified by local farmers and downtown merchants.

Downtown Adrian offers exclusive shopping and stylish salons, accented with a classic appeal. Experience the wonderful restaurants and grilles that make the downtown area such a lively spot on the weekends. Adrian is home to the Lenawee fair, the longest running fair in Michigan, and is close to Cabelas in Dundee, Michigan International Speedway and Hidden Lake Gardens. Adrian is also home to the Croswell Opera House, the oldest continuously operated theatre in the state of Michigan. Acting companies, famous orators and touring musicians from all over the country performed at the opera house from 1866 until 1921, when it was converted into a movie theatre. Live theatre returned in 1968 and has reestablished the Croswell Opera House as a beloved local gem and attraction for out-of-town guests.

Adrian features rich, historical architecture with a distinguished turn-of-the-century ambience throughout downtown and into the outskirts of the city. As of the fourth quarter 2009, the average residential sales price is $67,609. The average condominium sales price is $127,714.
