Welcome to Three Rivers, MIIn 1840 Three Rivers, Mich., was named for the three rivers—Rocky, Portage and St. Joseph River—that flow together to become one. In 1895, the territory became officially known as a city. Economically the area proved successful and diverse, becoming a major area for fur trade. Today, however, its main industry is vehicle and vehicle accessory manufacturing. Much of the downtown area today is on the National Historical Register. It houses the Silliman House on the St. Joseph River, which was established in 1876, and a museum nearby. Today the population is more than 7,300.
In addition to 15 city parks, Three Rivers recently invested in creating a petting zoo, complete with pastures full of animals people can enjoy feeding and interacting with. The historical downtown displays beautiful architecture and offers cultural entertainment. Entertainment venues, along with the diverse industries of tourism, service and manufacturing, make this area a popular draw for all kinds of people. | More Local Area InformationCass County, Michigan, was established in 1828 during the presidency of Andrew Jackson and named after Lewis Cass who served as territorial governo...
