About Parkville, MO

Parkville, Missouri is a diverse community steeped in history, the first plat of the town was filed in 1844. Originally a thriving river port for hemp and other products, Parkville grew faster than Kansas City, which was then 10 miles southeast.

A sense of community is still experienced in Parkville. The Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Association continually work toward providing opportunities in commerce & cultural events. http://www.parkvillemo.com Also available at no admission is the handicapped accessible nature sanctuary that sits behind City Hall. The 115-acre site features hiking trails, waterfalls, wetlands, overlooks and ponds.

Parkville is home to Park University, founded in 1875 by John A. McAfee on land donated by George S. Park with its initial structure being the stone hotel Park owned on the bluff above the Missouri River. Park University has grown to 43 campuses throughout the United States. www.park.edu .

Parkville falls within the Park Hill School District which encompasses most of southern Platte County, Missouri, in the Northland region of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Park Hill received an internationally recognized mark of quality when it achieved AdvancED District Accreditation in the summer of 2009. Park Hill provides a superb education to its students through its vision of Building Successful Futures - Each Student - Every Day. This is further supported by their mission - Through the expertise of a motivated staff, the Park Hill School District provides a meaningful education in a safe, caring environment to prepare each student for success in life.
