About Forest Park in St. Louis, MO

Forest Park is the nation’s largest urban park with 1,300 acres rich in both history and recreation. Buildings that were built for the 1904 World’s Fair still exist today. The St. Louis Art Museum is the crown jewel atop Art Hill overlooking picturesque fountains in Grand Basin and views of the city. Its Beaux-Art style building, designed by famous architect Cass Gilbert for the World’s Fair is a city landmark. Other notable buildings and cultural institutions include: the Missouri History Museum, built to honor Thomas Jefferson; the Jewel Box, an Art Deco floral conservatory constructed of 15,000 square feet of glass; the world renowned St. Louis Zoo, which offers free admission; the World’s Fair Pavilion; St. Louis Science Center, and Municipal Opera outdoor amphitheatre.
