The Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation Board manages 32+ parks and facilities including golf courses, a skate park, and Ozarks Greenway trails. Within the city Springfield also has The Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Open year-round, The Nature Center offers a variety of exhibits, programs, events, and six different walking trails.
Springfield is recognized as the birthplace of Route 66 where officials first proposed the name of the new Chicago to Los Angeles highway in 1926. You can still drive the historic route through the center of Springfield.
