The Soulard Neighborhood of St. Louis, MO

Named for Antoine Soulard, a Frenchman who surveyed colonial St. Louis for the King of Spain, the Soulard neighborhood evokes the French enjoyment of life and good food. Revelers take to the streets for the annual Mardi Gras and Bastille Day celebrations. Anheuser-Busch, the world’s largest brewery is an enclave of Bavarian style buildings, including the famous Clydesdale stables. As the brewery anchors the Soulard Neighborhood, the red-brick row houses which were built by early brewery workers have since been turned into music clubs, shops and restaurants. It is a festive and lively area. St. Louis blues music wafts through the streets of Soulard on Friday and Saturday nights.
