The Community of Manchester, MI

Manchester, MI is located within Washtenaw County. The village has a population of 2,160 people, according to the 2000 census. Conveniently located between the greater Ann Arbor area and Jackson, Manchester is located off M-52 between I-94 and US-12. The original settlers of Manchester came from Ontario County, New York, and named the city after their local township. This lovely town boasts rolling hills overlooking a dam and a bridge on the River Raisin. The charming community reflects 19th century Italianate architecture, complimented by other historic homes within the downtown area. Local merchants offer terrific shopping and gourmet restaurants with an old-world flavor. Historic landmarks include an old mill, the exquisite fieldstone Catholic Church St. Mary’s and several historic homes throughout Manchester.

This picturesque village features numerous parks and recreational areas. Carr Park is the site of the Fourth of July community picnic, games, fireworks and the annual Riverfolk Festival. Other local parks include Kirk Park, Wurster Park (home to a war memorial stone) and Chi-Bro Park, featuring a 3.5 acre spring fed pond, a nature trail and a designated cross-country track extends through the park. These spacious recreational parks host an array of festivals, including the River Raisin Canoe Races, the famous Chicken Broil, local weddings, little league games and antique car shows, among other special events.

Manchester offers homebuyers a quiet countryside that resembles the lush Irish Hills just southwest of this village.
