Upper East Side & Upper West Side Upper East Side
The Upper East Side at its southernmost zip code contains the nation's highest density of humanity and its largest concentration of wealth. There is little that is not within a short walk: schools, stores, museums, and parks. The housing stock is varied, crammed with luxury co-ops and condos to single family town houses, and tenement-style walk-ups.
Upper West Side
Some of the city's first luxury apartments were built here around the turn of the century. The area is home to a diverse cross–section of people representative of the city as a whole. The avenues are quiet and residential, but close to shopping and transportation. The extension of the subway above 59th Street prompted many developers to take interest in the Upper West Side. Here they created grand lobbies, high ceilings, and 10-12 room apartments with beauty that befits the area. The Northern tip of the Upper West Side, known as Morningside Heights is home to Columbia University. Upper West Side is one of the most desirable areas in recent years, yet can still offer a little better value in real estate prices than its southern end.
